We are in the middle of our fraction unit at school right now. Fractions, for some reason, are hard for some 5th grade minds to grasp. Why does a bigger number on the bottom indicate a smaller fraction? Doesn't that go against basic logic? And, why do you have to have a common denominator to add or subtract, but not to multiply? I'm just glad I don't have to teach them how to divide fractions. I mean, multiply one fraction by the reciprocal of the other fraction doesn't really sound like division, does it?
Yes, fractions are fun!
